Dynasty 2: Jean Pascal vs. Bernard Hopkins II
Fight Notes: In perhaps his most inspiring victory out of a career made on unlikely wins, Hopkins becomes at 46 the oldest man to ever win a world championship in any weight class, besting George Foreman by 192 days (George was 45 when he stopped Michael Moorer in 1994). The fight appeared very close, closer than HBO's commentary would suggest. Announced attendance of 17,560 was a Bell Centre record for boxing. |

This fight was a lot closer than it should've been. Incompetent reffing cost Bernard a KD twice.

Pascal was off balance both times when Hopkins landed the punch, causing the glove to hit the canvas. The ref ruled it a slip both times.

That's so annoying when the ref makes the wrong call, I mean, sometimes the ref can be at the wrong angle, and off balance situations can contribute to the ref being unsure of whether or not something was a knockdown or not.
Boxing Knowledge made the point that French fighters may have issues with their balance, and I agree, this wasn't the only time Pascal showed balance issues, and Hassan N'Dam, when he fought Peter Quillin, he was able to be active, successful and sprightly after being knocked down six times, you don't see that every day, and I think that shows that a lot of the knockdown he's shipped have been about balance more than anything else.

Re: Dynasty 2: Jean Pascal vs. Bernard Hopkins II
Bernard Hopkins, armed with his ascetic discipline, guileful ringcraft, and unshackled skulduggery made himself into the history books once again after making a record number of Middleweight title defenses by becoming the oldest man to win a legitimate world title at the age of 46.
Hopkins out-boxed, out-punched, and out-grappled his opponent 18 years his junior; he also thrown in a thumb to the eye (with modern boxing gloves!), a kidney punch and a push-up for good measure, ultimately earning a hard-fought decision in his opponent's hometown. This was nothing like the match his predecessor fought, where George Foreman was comprehensively out-boxed by Michael Moorer before landing an inelegant but potent right hand sending Moorer to the canvas. Hopkins did not enjoy the luxury of a puncher(preacher?)'s chance, his performance was the culmination of years of hard-work, discipline and understanding his craft.
"Bernard was the better athlete, the smarter fighter and in the better condition. Now that a 46 has done it, next a 47, 48, 49 and 50 will do it. And if somebody does it at 60, then I'll have to get back in there. Look, Hopkins is doing push-ups. What great conditioning. And he did it in Pascal's hometown. Isn't that something? He was just so much better. I'm happy for Hopkins and I'm happy for mature athletes."
