Gennady Golovkin 17-0 (14 KOs) vs. Mikhail Makarov 10-0 (5 KOs)
A nondescript opening round saw Makarov move around the ring and work with an occasional jab. Golovkin pursued his opponent and likely earned the round with some clean jab work. A straight right hand caught Makarov on the chin and sent him into the ropes and down at :33 of Round 2. Makarov got to his feet at the count of eight and action continued. An overhand right put Makarov down to a knee and bloodied his nose at 1:12. He was up almost immediately and received a mandatory eight-count. Golovkin came forward and landed a straight right to Makarov's likely already broken nose which sent him falling backward and down in pain. Without beginning a count the bout was waved to an end with Makarov bleeding heavily from the nose.
