Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Steve Rolls
Prediction,
Golovkin lost against Canelo, but it was close, no doubt about that. Golovkin is a great fighter, should still have a fair bit left in the tank, he is declining, won't be able to repeat his performance from the Canelo rematch, but he can come close. I think until Golovkin loses again at least once, gets at least a year older, it will take a great fighter to beat him, he can still win a world title, can still unify if he doesn't come accross another great champion.
I don't think this is a tough fight for Golovkin, he has been out for a fair bit, but isn't coming off a layoff, I think this is a tune up for Golovkin.
Rolls is 19-0, good record, but he is 35, no amateur career recorded on BoxRec, he is not a non-puncher, but isn't that much of a puncher, he has fought at American level, but this is a leap up in levels, his best wins are probably Nicholson and Leatherwood, who were beaten one sided by Centeno, Andy Lee, Jesse Hart. Rolls just edged out Nicholson, I think he is a very good American level fighter, but he is not nearly world level.
Rolls has been down, so Golovkin can definitely hurt him. Golovkin is not much older than Rolls, but in terms of experience and pedigree, amateur and professional, there is no comparison. Rolls has 53% KOs, to say he doesn't have Golovkin's power is an understatement.
Rolls can't out box Golovkin, doesn't have his skill, doesn't hit as hard, doesn't have as good a chin, he is younger and fresher, but I think the difference in calibre is too much, and this will be an easy win for Golovkin. Rolls has to just try his best, it is a good opportunity for him, but I don't think he has a chance.
I think Golovkin stops Rolls in 3.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Steve Rolls
Rolls was game tonight but got broke down quickly. N'Dam likely would've been stopped in 2 so they were right to pick Rolls over him.
Golovkin showed a bit of ring rust, I think he should of challenged himself with a better opponent and in turn would have got some more rounds in. Nonetheless I'm super excited about Canelo v GGG III this september!

Only thing worth mentioning for this fight was how it looked like GGG was trying to control the time when to stop the fight...to make it entertaining for the viewers. scary.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Steve Rolls
Good performance from Golovkin, but not great, he is definitely declining, gradually, and I think he's still top 3 in the division, but he is dipping, I don't think the trainer change has done him much good as a fighter, I saw some unnecessary movement from him in the first 2 rounds, being a boxer/mover isn't Golovkin's style, and I don't think trying to make him a much more illusive fighter will make his defence better, because a good opponent can hit him when he stops moving, time him, and it's drains the legs. That second round was poor from Golovkin, just one dodgy round, he was solid for the rest of the fight, but he was getting backed up and hit clean, looked old, but he got the win, made a big statement, that was a great KO, very well set up.
The trilogy against Canelo is still a big fight, I think it would be another entertaining, competitive fight, would still go 12, but I would be very surprised if Golovkin beat Canelo now, that is a very big ask, given that Golovkin can't repeat his performance from the second fight (at 37, that's a physical impossibility), and Canelo will have improved slightly if anything, but if the fight happens, I think Golovkin will try his best, make it another good fight, lose, and lose clearly this time, but not do his reputation much harm, and his deal is 5 more fights, the Andrade fight is a possibility before or after the Canelo fight, provided he doesn't retire after the third fight, which I don't think he would because there is still money to be made, and I think Golovkin will do well enough in the Canelo fight to prove hes till has a bit left in the tank.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Steve Rolls
It's good too see Golovkin getting a knockout. He looked good here not great
as far as a rematch with Canelo, I don't think it will happen. Just makes no sense for Canelo to put everything on the line with a guy he is 1-0-1 against.
Pacquiao Marquez 3 and 4 made a little bit more sense. Considering the first fight happened in 2004,then 2008, and 2011, 2012.

Re: Gennady Golovkin vs Steve Rolls
The upside for Canelo is that it is the highest profile fight he can take and that if he wins convincingly it will boost his legacy as most people see them as 1-1-0. DAZN will likely push for Canelo vs. Golovkin III as well, it would be a huge marquee event for them which is why the fight is the most likely possibility.
