George Foreman begins another campaign for a shot at the Heavyweight Championship by tuning up against undefeated but untested Jimmy Ellis. The fight turns out to be a total mismatch as Foreman hurts Ellis with an uppercut in the second round and staggers him with a one-two. Foreman actually holds off from doing more damage as Referee Richard Steele considers stopping the fight when the tough Ellis is out on his feet and wanders to the wrong corner after the round. Steele stops it in the third after Foreman lands a left hook, and a battered Ellis briefly protests.
