Undefeated Heavyweight Champion Riddick Bowe defends his crown in the nation's capital against Jesse Ferguson. Bowe drops Ferguson onto the bottom rope with a left hook and an uppercut near the end of the opening round. Ferguson, who has bet $10,000 on himself to survive the first round, struggles to his feet and makes it thanks to an incredibly slow count by Referee Larry Hazzard. Just seconds into the second round, Bowe again drops Ferguson on his face after a left hook and a right hand as the challenger is falling. Hazzard starts to count Ferguson out but changes his mind and waves his hands to end the massacre.
