Jaime Munguia vs Liam Smith
After blasting out Sadam Ali (who came off a win over Miguel Cotto) in a 4 round mismatch, 21 year Jaime Munguia defends his WBO light middleweight title for the first time against former WBO light middleweight champion, Liverpool's Liam Smith.
Smith is strong in the early rounds, comes forward, throws in volume, and is not in the least but intimidated by his undefeated opponent, Munguia hits Smith with the harder shots, doesn't let Smith bully him or back him up.
Smith tires in the mid rounds, having worked at an extremely high tempo, doesn't look completely gassed at any stage, but Munguia comes on, starts to outfight Smith, and looks to be taking over in round 6, when he drops Smith.
Smith drags out a bit of a rally in rounds 8 and 11, makes the rounds close, throws the kitchen sink at Munguia, but in the last half of the fight, Munguia does all the damage, lands more, and dominates the majority of the last 6 rounds.
It goes to the scorecards, and in by far the toughest fight if his career so far, Jaime Munguia wins a landslide UD, defends his title.
