Re: Jessie Vargas vs. Manny Pacquiao
Prediction,
I'm not overly keen on this fight, but that's because I think Manny Pacquiao should be retired, he's 37 years old, he's had a long, hard career, and I question whether or not he is a clean athlete. I think Pacquiao is still trying to get his pride back to an extent, I think the Mayweather loss hit him very hard, and he's trying to redeem himself, he's lost his hero image, his good guy image, when he did anything but cover himself in glory when he lost to Mayweather, and showed anything but good sportsmanship, yes, we all gave him credit when he handedly beat Tim Bradley, and a much improved Tim Bradley, but he didn't get that warm sense of congratulations as he did when he beat Bradley the second time they fought, or the time when he lost narrowly and rightly or wrongly controversially in their first meeting. I don't think Arum will be as happy with the way this fight is seen as he thinks he will be, because Manny Pacquiao is nowhere as a popular fighter as he once was, and Jessie Vargas, having fought only once since losing to Tim Bradley, who Pacquiao has beaten twice now, isn't considered much of a threat, and there isn't much excitement in this fight in my opinion, it seems as if Pacquiao is targeting the weak link in he division, a just to have a title again, I think that could be Jessie Vargas, but it also could be Danny Garcia, I think Pacquiao vs Garcia would have been a much better fight, and one that would have been much more popular, obviously, it's not Pacquiao's fault that Garcia didn't accept the offer, so I won't criticise him, especially as Vargas is a world champion in his own right, and a challenge for anyone.
I think Pacquiao will win this fight, and win big, I can see Vargas making it competitive, and being absolutely relentless, but coming second best in most exchanges, I think Pacquiao will win wide if it goes the distance, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pacquiao pulled off the stoppage. If Pacquiao loses, then I have no idea where he goes from here, I think he should be retired as it is, but if he loses to a guy he should not lose to, then he's in trouble in terms of his career, nothing and nobody can undo his achievements, and he's a great fighter, I believe he's still an elite, but I would like to see him retire soon, obviously, if he wins, and looks good, then he'll probably keep going for many more years. I don't know whether or not he's trying to tempt Mayweather into coming out of retirement, because I think he genuinely believes he can beat him, but I don't think that will work, Mayweather has nothing to prove, he retired at exactly the right time, and however many impressive victories Pacquiao secures, it doesn't un teach us what we were taught when they fought last year, and Pacquiao and Roach should bear that in mind, Mayweather aside, Pacquiao is still an elite champion in his own right, and if at 37, when to be fair he hasn't been declining for as long as 4 gradual years, he still feels he can achieve big things in the sport of boxing, then he has every right to go right ahead and push on with his career.

Re: Jessie Vargas vs. Manny Pacquiao
I agree. I have Pacquiao by convincing points decision but wouldn't be surprised if either score a knockout. I think Garcia would have been a better fight but I still think he would lose. He doesn't have a massive right hand is a left hooker. Left hookers never fair well with Pacquiao (e.g. Barrera, Cotto, De La Hoya who are all converted lefties with massive lefts hooks). When Manny negates your biggest weapons and sets up his own attack I struggle to see how Garcia would win. To be fair though, Garcia has a good chin. I don't think I have ever seen him go down.
Just before they both retire we need Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez 5: Once and for all (seriously this time)

Re: Jessie Vargas vs. Manny Pacquiao
It's interesting, that's a good point mate, it's a stylistic inconvenience for Garcia, well spotted, I think to catch on the counter and hope to nullify a range adjusting fighter like Pacquiao, you have to punch with them properly, and at the kind of pace Pacquiao would be likely to be able to set, work rate is an important ingredient. I think Danny Garcia has natural talent on the same level as Crawford and Thurman, in a sense, because as amateurs, Crawford and Garcia beat each other once, that doesn't mean much when you talk about the idea of them fighting now, but I'm just talking about that natural talent that a trainer spots in the gym when you're a kid. The difference is the way Garcia hasn't improved the way others have, it's sad, but I don't think he compares, to Thurman or Crawford, I don't think he makes the top 5 in the 147 lb division. Garcia's conditioning is good, and he knows how to hold shots using his cardiovascular strength as a durability weapon, but he gets fatuiged because he has to use up what he has in the tank taking big shots, it's these big sloppy periods and mistakes he makes, he makes so many of them, and he has a 'bad day at the office' so often, that you wonder.
I think that fight's unrealistic. I think Marquez, should definitely retire, and Pacquiao, well he shouldn't be fighting for a lot longer.

Re: Jessie Vargas vs. Manny Pacquiao
Will be decided by the judges....UD Pacquiao. Vargas is a good fighter, but not an elite fighter. Pacquiao might be old, but whatever he might have lost on speed with age, he's gained a lot of boxing experience and knowledge.
Hopefully it sets up a fight with Mayweather or even Khan. Those are good matchups. Fighting Canelo...or even GGG whom has been mentioned...would be an obscene thing to have in boxing

Re: Jessie Vargas vs. Manny Pacquiao
Good performance from Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao looked declined in this fight, not badly, and he still looked solid, and performed, against a good world class fighter who brought his best to the fight, I thought Vargas boxed really well in the first half of the fight, but Pacquiao's speed, skill and experience told in the second half of the fight, and he took over, securing a clear and comfortable victory.
