The Associated Press reported:
A crowd of 15,000 braved pouring rain to see Watt, always calm and collected, outbox former Olympic champion Davis, who was unbeaten in 13 previous professional contests. . . . Davis, a narrow pre-fight favorite, was slow to settle in front of the shouting Scottish crowd. Southpaw Watt completely dominated the opening half of the bout and although the challenger produced some telling late blows, the result was not in doubt.
According to the AP, Watt was paid $1 million and Davis $300,000.

Found this one on youtube, should be a classic boxing match.

R1: Measured round, Watt does the landing. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R2: Same as the first, Davis is a little more active but Watt's does a great job of catching the shots that might land on the gloves. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R3: Watt's is using angles and ever so slight movement beautifully to just miss being tagged by one of Davis' shots. WHile also landing that good southpaw jab, and really nice combos. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R4: More of the same, Watt lands a real good combination this round that gets Davis' attention. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R5: Davis just isn't doing enough, and his not using his natural gifts and advantages in this fight at all. He does start to land this round, and does get in a good right hand, and good combo. Watt still gets the better work in while remaining very hard to hit. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R6: A big round by Watt, he didn't look this good against O'Grady. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R7: There is no way Davis could be thinking what he is doing is winning him this fight, he's not even making Watt really work hard to tire him out for the later rounds, not going to the body, barely throwing anything of note. Watt lands that left whenever he pleases. Davis does turn it up a notch in the final 20 seconds but it's not enough. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R8: Davis' best round, the first time he actually looked like he was in a fight, and got the better of the exchanges. 10-9 Davis.

rorschach's picture

R9: That's 2 rounds in a row for Davis, he landed some real good hard shots to the head and body. Watt did land his best left of the fight, but this is Davis' round.10-9 Davis.

rorschach's picture

R10: Davis is really coming on now, really throwing good shots, Watt still landing that left hand well, but I thought Davis did more good work this round, and a cut opened under Watt's eye. 10-9 Davis.

rorschach's picture

R11: Watt I thought came back good this round to take the play away from Davis. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R12: Watt really comes on strong this round, very good round for Watt who opens up a cut over Davis' eye. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R13: Davis just doesn't have it on this night. He does land a few good shots, but this round was handled by Watt. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

R14: Davis comes out fast this round, looking for a knockout. Davis lands good all round some of his best punches the whole fight. Watt does get him cornered in the last minute, and lands well, but not enough to take the round. 10-9 Davis.

rorschach's picture

R15: Back and forth round, really close. But I think Watt did just a bit better. 10-9 Watt.

rorschach's picture

Almost called that last round 10-10.

rorschach's picture

If Davis would have started earlier than round 8 he might have had a shot at this fight.
