Re: Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin
I'd say the headliner for me but I admit to knowing nothing about Carlos Negron or either of vykhryst & kiladze. I think Demirezen should make light work of Washington and I don't see what Coffie can do any different in the Rice rematch but admit to it be intriguing. What's the inside track?

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin
word on the streets is Ruiz turned down an offer from team Ortiz hence this headliner as he wasnt ready to return on date recovering from knee injury and that Ruiz may be interested in cashing in on Helenius new found fame...what you think of that one if that does indeed happen next

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin
Have to say, I think Martin Ortiz is a good fight was just questioning the money. Is it true that if you have guests round to watch the boxing, the ppv is normally split between the attendees?
Ruiz Helenius should be a good one. I've still yet to see Ruiz Arreola and from what I hear Ruiz didn't look great but that aside, I think the Ruiz of old should stop Helenius. Not taking away from Helenius' last performance which was great but I think Ruiz is a level or 2 above Kownacki. And you?

Great? Can't agree man, this is trash, especially as PPV. Not a good sign for the future of FOX in boxing

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin
@Gold fair man shaping up to be a great New Years weekend of boxing imho tho with a good card here not the greatest fasho....personally tho i cant remember another New Years weekend that i got to enjoy..where it wasnt just boxing from Japan/Asia with lower weights mostly....few competitive matchups up on here and a couple with potentiality to be explosive and would love the winner of the headliner here face the likes of DIllian Whyte and in cross the street fights later on
as with "PPVs" i totally respect your position i been consistent in saying i cant tell others if a card would be worth it or not and i've never get in the way of fans & paying customers venting their frustrations about a given product (but at the same time i dont feel it tarnishes a fighters legacy to have easier touches in between elite level opponents)
how do you feel this card in particular is a bad sign for the future?....hey if i had a dollar for every time i heard that about boxing on Fox in the last half decade or so

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin
Should be good otherwise, as you said Japan is going to have some great fights. Not exactly NYE but Golovkin vs. Murata should be fun stylistically. There's no way Ortiz vs. Martin can be a $40 PPV, but it being PPV makes it seem like Fox won't put up the money and PBC will take the risk on it. I don't know what the break-even would be but there's no way it will sell over 100k, Ortiz and Martin do not move the needle at all.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin
Prediction.
Ortiz is a heavy favourite based on how much better he did against Wilder than Martindid against Joshua, but Ortiz will have declined, I definitely think Martin could have done better against Joshua, and has improved a lot aside from what he could have done against Joshua. Martin has faster feet than Ortiz, Ortiz has the skill to cut off the ring, but Martin can pick points at long range, and Ortiz has to push his movement to cut distance. Ortiz is offensively better than Martin, and handles himself better in the pocket, controls and adjusts his position, he can do more damage than Martin when in range, but if he has to reach, that opens him up for a counter, and Martin's jab can make it harder for Ortiz cut the distance. The further the fight goes, the more it should favour Martin, the minute will definitely be better recovery for Martin than Ortiz after a tough round.
I think Ortiz will start on the front foot, will back Martin up and out work him, will do a better job of creating angles at mid range, and Martin will struggle to establish his jab, but Ortiz will struggle to keep him under pressure, Martin will lean back and catch Ortiz on the counter, will be mobile, which will keep Ortiz following him. I think Ortiz's variety and accuracy will be the difference on the inside, and he will be ahead after 6 rounds, but he will gas after 6-8 rounds, and Martin will dominate the late rounds, he will push him back, tee off with the left hand, and do a lot of damagse, Martin won't have it in the tank to finish him, but he'll have all the momentum.
I wouldn't be surprised if either won by stoppage or decision, 4 years ago, Ortiz would definitely have won, but I think Martin will win this by UD.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin
Ortiz looked elderly, falling and unbalanced against relatively weak punches - almost off balance from the beginning. However, he is very skilled and Martin looked weak and unskilled despite having a physical advantage.

Re: Luis Ortiz vs Charles Martin
I wasn't impressed by Martin, I was very impressed by Ortiz given his age and inactivity, his age was a factor, his feet were slower, he couldn't keep Martin under consistent pressure, and whenever he took a decent shot, but his legs weren't there, he wasn't hurt bad either time, especially not the second time, and aside from the 10-8 rounds, Martin didn't build any momentum off the knock downs at all, he was gun shy because he knew Ortiz could counter him, he was very easy to counter because he was so slow but also because he wasn't controlling his position when he missed, he couldn't back Ortiz up consistently, Ortiz wasn't a tough target, but he had the last word in every exchange, one of the key differences was punch selection, Ortiz knew which shot to throw more often than Martin did. I don't think Martin had a good game plan, he looked to set up the left hand behind the jab, which was a good tactic, but he was moving the wrong way, he could have created the angle for the left hand by stepping or even leaning to his left. Martin's response to being hurt was terrible, he froze, he wasn't mentally prepared to survive.
