Re: Mark Magsayo vs Rey Vargas
Could always be wrong but I simply can't see Vargas losing this fight. Magsayo has good power which saved him against Ceja in a fight he was losing but his boxing just isn't that great. He even somewhat struggled with a one armed Gary Russell who trained himself due to his father's health at the time and was coming off a long layoff (as always). Magsayo made ZERO adjustments and walked into Gary's ONLY hand many times. Lol it was frustrating to watch.
I'm just not sold on Magsayo. Never been extremely high on Vargas but he's a good technical boxer that throws a lot and works the body really good. Plus the height and reach advantage should help him stay outside.
Magsayo's only hope is a KO. I think Vargas will box his ass off unless he gets caught with that Ceja punch. Haha

Re: Mark Magsayo vs Rey Vargas
Prediction.
Vargas is more experienced overall, but Magsayo has the best win, Vargas is the better boxer on the outside, is more compact, Magsayo can be out boxed and is defensively poor, but Magsayo hits harder, has a better chin, and he's the better counter puncher. I don't think the weight favours either, Vargas was very big at 122, and it's his second fight at 126, but activity definitely favours Magsayo, Vargas has fought once since 2019. I think Vargas's style is bad for Magsayo, Magsayo is dangerous on the back foot, holds up well mentally under relentless pressure, is durable, but his footwork is poor in terms of skill and speed, he isn't a good pressure fighter, and Vargas usually boxes on the back foot, uses his long reach. Vargas is far faster, is the better combination puncher, and his fundamentals are better. I think Vargas reached his full potential years ago, and Magsayo has improved significantly in the last year or 2.
I think Vargas will get the better of the duration of the early rounds, Magsayo won't be able to cut him off, Vargas will combinations off easily, and will counter Magsayo's lead right hand after a couple of rounds, but Magsayo won't be frustrated, will throw the lead right hand to the head and body more often as the rounds go on, will be harder to counter as he comes in low, will get more accustomed to Vargas's speed, will be more aggressive, and will punch with Vargas more easily as he opens up. I think Magsayo will hurt Vargas when he lands the counter right hand, will follow it up with the right hand the head and body, one shot at a time, he'll miss, and he'll still have to force his feet, but Vargas's movement will be unsteady, and when Magsayo has him on the ropes, he will land clean, consecutive power shots, and Vargas's chin won't hold up.
My prediction is Magsayo in 7 or 8 rounds, I wouldn't be surprised if either fighter won by decision.
