Really can't see how Dubois wins this. I think he has better stamina than Joshua and may be more willing to try and get rough with Usyk, similar to what Chisora did, but at this point I really just can't see anyone at heavyweight beating Usyk. Just way too agile and smart.

I'm gonna go with Usyk by a round 8 TKO. I think he will win every round prior besides maybe one.I think Dubois will get dropped twice in round 8 before the referee stops it after he gets hit with another flurry.

If Dubois even wins a round I'll be surprised.

I think dubois take thhis by ko

I say this as an Usyk fan: you should have been right, I think the ref made a mistake in round 5.

MZam04's picture

I understand the controversy around this fight. Watching the replay several times, it does appear to not be a low blow.

However, despite the amount of people claiming dubois should actually be the champ, no one actually knows what would've happened if the ref counted it as a knockdown. Personally I'm very confident usyk would've gotten up but would dubois be able to finish it? There's no way of knowing.

I wouldn't mind to really see a rematch to end the controversy, to which I'd probably pick usyk again.

However, this whole situation does make me less confident usyk beats everyone in the division. I would still favour him over some of the heavyweights that don't punch as hard and will try to box usyk (such as fury or hrgovic) but I think wilder and especially zhang would have a decent chance of landing a devastating body shot. I'm a massive usyk fan but this whole situation does make me worry for him in his future fights.

Jarod Killian's picture

Apparently Usyk vs Fury is going to happen in December. In a way that’s an end of the road for both fighters. Really doesn’t make any sense for either to continue post that fight except for a rematch. Fury is the betting favorite but seriously what is he going to do if he wins fight Wilder a fourth, fifth and sixth time? Jon Jones in a ladder match at WrestleMania? I could see him becoming Floyd Mayweatheresque where he’ll retire for a few years only to come back and beat the heavyweight champion if he looks beatable like say Jared Anderson and then retire again. If Usyk where to win, other than giving Fury a rematch Wilder would be a lose lose proposition for him. I really don’t see him sticking around past that.

Champion97's picture

From my perspective, the shot in question from Dubois was very clearly low, and it was the right call from the referee. Granted, a portion of the leather was on the beltline, and it wasn't a case of the full surface in contact with the shorts material being below the belt, and it wasn't in the testicles, which is obviously the most alarming kind of low blow, however, no portion of the glove touched Usyk's skin, and the bottom of it, was below the belt. What some fans don't realise is, shots below the navel, are not legal, that shot, although again partly on the beltline, was below the navel, it's why fighters often have 4-packs and not 6-packs, because they don't need to build a wall of muscle to protect an area which isn't allowed to be hit. When the shot lands, it lifts up the left leg of Usyk's shorts, and it does not send any ripple through Usyk's back, when a body shot lands, the shorts don't move, and you can see the fighter's back muscles get shaken. Usyk's instant reaction is to fall down in agony not try to get up, a fighter who takes a body shot rarely falls that fast, and never chooses to give into the shot like that, it was the expected reaction of a fighter who knew he had been hit low, expected the referee to recognise it, and knew he could take his time to recover. I can't believe a dominant and undeniably impressive performance from Usyk has been overshadowed by this farfetched argument of this being a legal blow.

This was an offensively brilliant performance from Usyk, Dubois did quit, but he was wise, his trainer should have pulled him out before he had to do that, it makes no sense for a fighter who knows he has no chance to win, to stay in the ring just to get beaten up, quitting might well have saved his career. I don't think Dubois gpt the tactics wrong, I think his style was good for Usyk, Dubois is a thinker, he starts at a tentative pace and settles into his own rhythm before his opponent can, fighters who have given Usyk the toughest fights have fought with broken rhythm like tactics, meaning they've been fighters who've negated the opponent's offence and stopped them settling regardless of their own accuracy, which is very different to staying back, being patient and taking feel out rounds to establish the jab.
