Jarod Killian's picture

I picked Deontay Wilder to win the first fight. I thought Fury soundly outboxed Wilder except for the 9th and 12th round. I think I might've given Wilder an extra round but that's it. All that said, I'm going to go ahead and pick Wilder again on the rematch. I think he'll stop Fury inside 8 rounds in a fight he'll be soundly behind on all scorecards leading up to that point.

Jarod Killian's picture

Mad props to Fury for pulling this off. I thought if he was going to win he’d do it on points but he got the job done and if there’s one way to do it in boxing it’s by making the judges redundant which he did. Fury needs to start coming in heavier from now on.

Champion97's picture

Prediction,

I think if Fury had lived the life from the Klitschko win, he'd have beaten Wilder easily last time and could shut him out now, if he has lived the life since the first fight, and Wilder being too light, unwell, were just rumours, Fury should win this easily, but if he has slacked, and it wasn't the best Wilder last time, I think Wilder knocks him out. I think Wilder wasn't at his best the first time, was too light, but I think people exaggerate. Tactically, hiring Hill might have been a good or bad move for Fury, but based the way he talks, changing trainers, I think Fury is fully focused, will have had a great camp all being well.

Fury's previous inactivity isn't a factor, and if he's done everything right, has the mentality from the first fight, all being well, he'll be better this time. This fight is as close as it gets to puncher vs boxer, at this level, the boxer usually improves in the rematch, and if Fury is at his best, he should definitely beat Wilder. I don't think Wilder is declining, his resume isn't great, but he has been consistent, is a great athlete, so Wilder shouldn't be worse this time, and if Fury isn't diciplined, he will be worse this time.

You could argue Wilder has the momentum, with the Ortiz KO, and Fury's bad last round against Wallin, bad cuts, but I think Fury is very confident. I see no technical improvement from Wilder, I don't think he's as unskilled as some say, but his overall boxing ability still isn't good. I think Wilder slacks because he knows he only needs one shot. This fight is as close as it gets to puncher vs boxer, at this level, the boxer usually improves in the rematch, and if Fury is at his best, he should beat Wilder.

Whether Fury can hurt Wilder is interesting, I don't think Wilder respects his power, Fury hit him clean last time, with 40-50lbs on him, and I don't think he hurt him, so Wilder will take risks, but if Fury hurts him or even just gets his respect, he will have to be more cautious. Fury might think Wilder can't knock him out after last time, he got up and recovered last time, when his conditioning wasn't as good, but he also didn't take Wilder's best shot, because Wilder didn't have his full power after punching himself out in round 9. If Fury fights Wilder in the pocket, that's a mistake, if he tries to make in inside fight, or tries to mall Wilder, he might get KO'd trying, Wilder can hurt him bad, but he didn't have all his power after almost being KO'd last time, so Wilder didn't take his best shots.

No outcome would surprise me, nobody will be shocked if Fury wins a decision or Wilder wins by KO, but if Wilder knocks Fury down 3 rounds, he wins a decision by winning 5 rounds, and I think Fury can stop Wilder, I think he is a lot physically stronger, can wear Wilder down, has more power than he proved last time. It might be that Fury just doesn't have the natural power to hurt Wilder, but I think he will hurt him this time, and build on it.

I think Fury will be on Wilder from the first bell, it's a high risk strategy, I think he would be wise to box like he did last time in the first half, but I think he will be effective, he will overwhelm and outhustle Wilder, and I think Wilder will be surprised by his power, not because he's heavier than in the first fight, but because Fury wasn't aggressive last time until he had almost nothing in the tank. I think Fury will land clean, hard shots, in high volume, to head and body. I think Fury will smother most of Wilder's shots, will parry and block when Wilder throws, but when Wilder can create distance, or when Fury goes at him, I think Wilder will land the right hand and put Fury down. I don't think Wilder will stop Fury, because I think Fury will lean on Wilder, and also fight his way out of trouble.

I think for 8 rounds, it will be a great, close fight, I think Wilder will drop Fury 2-3 times, but outside the knock downs, Fury will win every round, Wilder will be stronger this time than last time, but so will Fury, and in terms of stamina, the weight favours Fury, because Wilder is at a career heaviest, Fury is heavier, but the difference in Fury's weights between fights is less than Wilder's, so Fury is more adapted to fighting at the weight he fights at, and still being the much stronger fighter, Fury can lean on Wilder, which is draining, Fury will throw more, but will land a lot of clean shots to head and body, which will take more out of Wilder. I think Wilder's tank will be empty after 8 rounds, and Fury will stop him with accumulation.

If your prediction is right and Fury gets off the floor 2-3 times to stop Wilder it will be an all-time great fight

Fury came in too light against wallin and wilder the first time around, he needs to come in around 265 so he has a chance to stop wilder late because there is a good chance he won't get a decision.

There is a better chance he gets a decision this time if it is questionable going to the scorecards. Politically he has Top Rank's backing in the US this time around

I predict a Fury victory.

Perhaps. It is hard to know how the scorecards will go, and whether or not they will be fair, since Fury was robbed in the first fight.

I don't think Fury was robbed, but 115-111 for Wilder was a highly controversial one. For the reason that Gold said, Fury isn't likely to get any unfair judging this time, so if you are a Fury fan, I wouldn't worry about that.

I picked Tyson Fury to win the first fight by decision. (I believe he won 114-112.) This time round I'm picking the same, Fury by decision. With the backing of ESPN/Top Rank for Fury now there's less likely to be favourable scoring for Wilder like in the first fight. I predict it will be a fairly close UD along the lines of 116-112 (or maybe even a split decision in favour of Fury) with neither man getting knocked down.

Wilder KO within 8 rounds.

I was skeptical about whether Fury was actually going to go for the KO, but after the weigh ins, I think he wasn’t chatting shit like he normally does.

Wilder is also much heavier. He’ll get the KO, probably around 7-8.

It took a while but this is feeling like it has a legit big fight atmosphere

Fucking incredible. I thought Fury would win by decision but I didn't expect this. The gulf in class was laughable. People will look back at this performance for years and years to come.

Fury is the best heavyweight, best British fighter who has ever lived in my opinion, everyone knows he is extremely skilful, but he has reputation for not hitting hard, he proved he has punching power in this fight, he doesn't have top level power, but he is not a non-puncher. Hill deserves credit as a trainer, the game plan was great. I think Wilder was too heavy, which is why he gassed so early, he might have had issues, but I think Fury had the measure of him regardless, is a level above Wilder, is better in every department apart from power, and the first fight was what it was only because of Fury's inactivity.

Wilder will go down in the hall of fame, he is not an all time great, but a 5 year champion, he is a good fighter, but he can't beat an on form Fury, I think he'll push for the third fight, won't take anything to step aside, but I think he'd be better off going after Joshua and accepting a small percentage, if Joshua and his team have any interest in the fight now. Wilder didn't quit, he deserves credit for his heart, but he has not been a gracious loser, made a ridiculous excuse, and has damaged his reputation a lot more than it was damaged by the fight itself.

I thought Fury was in control from start to finish, even in the first 2 rounds, he was controlling the pace, he backed Wilder up, applied pressure, but it was educated pressure, and he didn't give Wilder any openings. Wilder had an ear injury, so the blood wasn't from the brain, which means his career isn't over. I think Wilder recovered from the shot that put him down in round 3, but Fury broke him down, he was never prepared for the counter screw shot left hook from Fury and was surprised by the power when Fury landed the right hand to the side of the head in close, Fury put him down with a great body shot in round 5, Wilder's legs were gone in round 6, could hardly stand, the writing was on the wall, it was Fury's fight to lose.

Breland threw the towell at the right time, Wilder was in the corner, which is the worst place to be, was defenceless. After the first 2 rounds, Wilder took as much damage in the rounds he wasn't dropped in as he did in the rounds he was, which says it all.

What a fight! Fury is definitely top of the division now. Can't wait for Fury vs Joshua.
