Well gentleman, prepare be bored to death for the next few weeks(or months) , because Corona virus is about knock the 2020 sports year the f#Ck out. It has already caused the suspension of play for the NBA, cancelled the NCAA Tournament entirely, and now it is spreading to the combat sports world. TR just cancelled two cards, while I haven't heard anything about the showtime card yet. In MMA, supposedly the events will go on without crowds.
Figured it was time to start a news thread for any combat sports related cancellations. I've already got sweaty palms for Loma vs Lopez, Khabib vs Ferguson(It's cursed!), Inoue vs. Casimero, Prograise vs Hooker, etc
Stay safe out there!
UFC just hosted an event in an empty stadium in Brazil, the first US based sport to actually go through with doing it. You gotta think cards like Matchroom Avanesyan-Kelly and TR Beterbiev-Meng are in trouble. I know the TR card is already being moved out of Canada to a studio in the US. Same with Inoue-Casimero, and that one is all the way out to the end of April. We'll see whether they're able to stick with it as the UFC has so far. Unfortunately, this is something that could seriously effect all events all the way in to May or even June.
NOOOOO! FUCK! FUCK! FUUUUCK! WHAT THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO WATCH NOW!? FUCKING MMA?? WWE? MAN FUCK THIS SHIT! Seriously, going from boxing to MMA is like going from Gourmet Italian food like fucking handcrafted pasta done at the moment and sauces made with fresh ingredients to being handed a can of Chef Boyardee.
Lol, I can't tell if that is trolling or not. If it isn't, I suggest you rethink your elitist stance on boxing. As much as I love boxing, I also enjoy all combat sports, and that is especially true for MMA, which I see as every bit as entertaining as boxing. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Either way, you're more than likely not going to see combat sports of any type for the next few months with the UFC now also postponing, so I wouldn't worry about your "chef boyardee" analogy. You'll be going hungry.
Does anybody have/know an official boxing fight card resume date? Like the first official fight card that is on after all this Coronavirus
I think the virus is too unpredictable for that.
I'm not sure on that, but the association of ringside physicians just relaxed their recommendations against fights going on. Florida boxing commission is agreeing to oversee three UFC events coming up on the 9th, 13th, and 16th. If they successfully pull that off, maybe some Boxing will follow suit in Florida? Almost every big fight I've checked that was schedule for May or June is already officially postponed though.
You hear that Bob has been talking about starting in June at the earliest and he wants to start in Nevada/California? Didn't rule out Florida though, I think it was on boxingscene. It will be very hard to make any big fight for a while though, loss of gate plus unpredictable PPVs is a killer.
I heard about that, but I'm not sure why he is targeting California. They're one of the strictest states out there policy wise, and the governor already got pressured in to canceling 249, although I'll give the caveat that it was reasonable at the time as cases were building and tests weren't commonly available.
Nevada is undergoing reopening though, so they make sense as a location. I'm a little surprised though, since Florida is amenable and allowed UFC 249(which was great BTW) to go on despite one of the fighters(and the two guys staying with him to corner) having to be removed for testing positive on friday. Probably comes down to the fact that boxing promoters rarely host shows in that state, so he is working with people he knows.
I'd imagine with big fights in boxing having promotional divide issues, the loss of gate will be a bigger factor than in MMA. Still, the main moneymaker continues to be PPV. I still think there are opportunities for profitable fights if they(the promoters) work together for an event that will draw PPV buys. Initial reports are that 249 did well, so maybe that will spur boxing promoters to put on fights. You gotta wonder whether a promotion like DAZN will even survive though. No fault of their own too, and they offered much more affordable access. Too bad.
Hearing Bob is looking at June 9th in vegas. Hope it happens!
Rumours are that it’ll be Shakur Stevenson vs Rafael Rivera, though, which I wouldn’t even watch if I was paid to. I’m not sure why it couldn’t be against Jessie Magdaleno, the guy who just beat Rivera.
UFC just produced a stacked card full of world class fights, yet in boxing we continually have to put up with these showcase & tune-up fights. It’s killing the sport & it’s a real shame.
I wish Boxing could get over the politics and marinations for better matchups too, but at this point I'd take anything I can get. Even a Stevenson-Rivera card.
You'd hope dire times like this might show the promoters the flaws in the product they're delivering, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.
It turns out it is against Felix Caraballo. Not exactly an ideal matchup, but what the hell, we're all starved for boxing at this point. I wonder if the move in weight is permanent or just a result of an abnormal training camp due to the pandemic?
well until further updates...or news to the contrary

Excited for Baranchyk vs. Zepeda, that's a great contender matchup.
Is that on the TR card on the 9th?
Nvm, see it is on the 7th.
Apparently Rungvisai vs. Ruenroeng is rebooked for July 25th in Thailand. Could be a crazy fight between two former Thai champions. Ruenroeng is likely finished at a top-level at 40 but they both are rugged and Ruenroeng has been especially dirty in the past.
That's not terrible I guess. PBC is putting some really good fights on in a few months. First matchups I've heard about that I'm actually excited for. Not sure how they do as PPVs though.
