The War: Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns II
Fight Notes: Many felt Hearns did enough to deserve the decision in the rematch of their first epic fight, but in retrospect, a draw may have been the most reasonable result. Although hinted at in the post-fight interviews, a third fight between the two never materialized. |

I can honestly see Hearns feeling he was robbed, he did more than enough to get his retribution and had it taken away by the judges.

But this should have been at least a 4 point win for Hearns from what I remember.

Yep 7 rounds to 5 Hearns but 2 10-8 rounds makes it a 4 point win for Hearns. Don't see how you can come up with a draw out of that, even if you go 6 rounds to 6 it's still a 2 point win for Hearns not a draw.

The judges were always unfairly biased for Leonard in his big fights.

Re: The War: Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns II
Outstanding how Leonard, like Mayweather Jr of today, gets the judges nod because they have the ability to get the judges to stop watching the actual fight, and start watching them. It's easy to do. In their primes, Ali and Roy Jones could get you to stop watching the fight, and rather, watch to see what they were going to do next. Unfortunately, this tactic never seemed to pan out for Sweat Pea...? Anyhow, Leonard obviously lost this bout, yet it was ruled a Draw. And the first bout was stopped prematurely. It was almost as if the ref was waiting for an opportunity to jump in and give it to Ray. Being a lifelong boxing guru, I hate to say this. But if the sport doesn't do something drastic...soon, it's going to lose out to MMA. :( Don't let this happen!!!

I believe this fight is more entertaining than the first, albeit it’s not as dramatic. I also believe that the outcome was fair enough and that the outcry of people who scream robbery is unjust. Most people that scream robbery only gave it to hearns by 1 or 2 points. I scored 114-112 Hearns but could totally understand someone give it a draw or to Leonard. There were many close rounds and you could reasonably give the last round a 10-8. Great fight.
