Congrats on reclaiming your perch atop the most active users list.
I haven’t watched this one yet. I hear this fights really good, what’d u think of it?

cheers bro but I won't be there for long lol I was supposed to be taking a break from scoring the start of the year lol and work on finishing college this year after co*id postponements last year but that shit ended up being tougher than expected for me mentally and I actually find scoring fights therautic of sorts and able to concentrate on the rest of my work better after scoring fights.weird huh ?
but as schedules get tougher I'd be forced to stop for at least a few months and cut down time there

quality can be more important than quantity and I respect the fact bro that you mostly score classics, thrillers, and some really slept on wars and real competitive bouts usually and the bigger fights...a lot of them I just bucket list for later as there's only so much mental energy one can find in a day right

yeah this was just a classic I wasn't even watching boxing back then but my cousin being into the sport wouldn't shut up about this and this lived up to expectations... had to impress the effort of Codrington that while taking a beating had the heart and wherewithal to be looking for the counters inside Bika's punches
rd 1 should be in a time capsule of its own probably and Codrington was actually in at least 3 of the other rds with Bikas bombs outside his vision mostly just doing enough to thwart him from making that push...all time action fight for a pretty much one sided fight card and you gotta love those...Bika experience proved him special on the night and musta been a redeeming tourney for him and that probably helped putting him in line to be a substitute (dont quote me) for the Super Six years later
what did you think of it now ?

I feel that. I've found watching fights has helped me get through college too. It's always nice to take a step back from whatever responsibilities you have and just watch a good fight.

I love watching slugfests or just compelling fights in general. Theres just something about finding/learning about amazing fights that no one has seen or heard of that just makes me happy. I feel like after I watched a lot of the known slugfests (I.E Hagler vs Hearns, Foreman vs Lyle, etc.) I just wanted more. It get's hard sometimes to find good fights, but then you come across a fight like this.
I'd seen this fight thrown around before when people talk about great fights, but I hadn't seen it until now because it wasn't on here. I knew it was going to be good going in, but I wasn't expecting what I saw. That first round was one of the best rounds I've seen in a long while. The fight had so much action from beginning to end nonstop. I think Bika had everything going for him going into the fight. He had already given Calzaghe a tough fight by this point. It was the heart and the courage of Codrington that made this fight. Both men fought bravely, but ultimately it was the veteran Bika that pulled out on top. Bika would later go on to win a belt at super middleweight and even challenged Adonis Stevenson for his belt at one point. Also, remember like 2 years ago when Nigel Benn said he was coming out of retirement? Bika was going to be his opponent. Crazy stuff

pretty well said
im just glad they didnt lol...more like more than 3 years ago 2017 if i remember right..i always felt like woulda have been better if Nigel spend that energy on Conor's corner helping him with tips but now with Tyson's old man exhibition league idk...you dont know what to expect from these retired fighters from decades past lol...what did you think of Tyson vs Jones?...
yup that rd 1 among the few first rds you can actually compare to Angulo Kirkland
"seen this fight thrown around.." in real life settings like gyms or online too?
i mean i found it refreshing when ppl actually talk about fights like this one on threads usually its always the same top 15-20 fights like the other couple you mentioned and i get slack for this but i been feeling fans in general especially newer ones grossly overrate the Gatti Ward trilogy
got you...love that fresh feeling of watching rare gems

lol tell me about it..aint nothing like starting your day off with a fight
has it been a long time since you finished college...if you dont mind me asking

The Tyson Jones exhibition was exciting. I didn't go in with very high expectations but it delivered. Also Snoop Dogg was hilarious.
I've seen this fight mentioned in boxing forums before. Thats, where I find most of my fights. I scour reddit, boxingforum24, and boxingscene among other places.
As for how long it has been since i finished school, well... I haven't lol. I'm still in college. Online school stresses me the fuck out and just my luck, I only have one in-person class. Oh well. this whole pandemic will be over soon enough.

Chris M95's picture

i feel foolish for presuming that lol...looks like online classes might just be the future for a lot of these institutions anyway even after the pandemic
same...used to do that i only started watching boxing for real around 2013 but even before that frequented a lot of those forums...plus different perspectives cant hurt
for me Snoop was the redeeming factor of that card and the Nate Robinson memes and how them nba players reacted to that ko wasnt bad either lol
idk man i gotta disagree wasnt too excited for it either going in but even still felt underwhelmed mainly in the middle rds of that exhibition but hey guess ima sucker for boxing the intrigue of it and one potential moment of magic from the old legends and everybody hyping it up come fight week might end up causing me to watch further exhibitions...hey if you can sit through Roy Jones vs Rodney Moore in one sitting these exhibitions can only get so bad lol

Metalhead123's picture

I just read the write up on Roy Jones vs Rodney Moore and I saw your score. I'm not touching that one with a ten foot pole lol. The thing that really entertained me about the Tyson vs Jones fight was that going in, I was scared for Roy Jones. I don't want to see him significantly damaged in a fight. I thought Tyson might actually kill him lol. So the fact that it went the full 8 surprised me. I thought the action was entertaining at times and I was laughing during the between rounds periods because both men were panting in the corners, especially Jones. I feel like the whole event played out like a sort of sports comedy and I really enjoyed and appreciated it for that.

lol
from that pov its hard to argue...and Tyson's post fight interview was funny too
i did talk to one of Roy's relatives on fb a couple years ago..dude was travelling to Roys last pro fight vs Scott Sigmon (entertaining compared to his previous fights with Nate Campbell biased commentary the worst thing there) and he kept bringing up Roy's ego and how some how he feared Roy wouldnt be done with the limelight the ring brings until its was too late and based on some of things he brought up(and Roy's track record later in his pro career od course) wouldnt surprise me one bit if ROy ended up on another one of Tyson's exhibition cards in there vs Hopkins or some shit
