Re: Gervonta Davis vs Isaac Cruz
George Kambosos is now the most important man in boxing.
I openly admit to a bias against PBC which is why I'd like to hear some alternative opinions for balance but I thought last night's show was a bit of a disgrace in terms of production (even though I watched for free). Commentator failed to acknowledge home fighters getting hit so the Fundora fight was really quiet and the Tank fight was a comedy special, my favourite bit being "he's stopped Cruz in his tracks" as Tank is backing away in pain after being nailed by yet another body shot.
That being said, they've now broken their own policy and appear to be courting Kambosos (no surprise on that change considering a non-elite fighter just won the titles). If Kambosos chooses to go another way, the claims that everybody wants to fight Tank and PBC is boxing's sun that all the other promoters orbit around, loses all validity because the first person they openly call out will have turned them down.
It's my opinion that if Kambosos fights Tank, those 135 titles will be locked away and the best division in boxing gets shut down.
Anyone got any strong opinions either way?

Cruz won the fight in my opinion, Kambosos has a chin but not as good as Cruz who has a steel dome and made Tank break his hand (not Cruz's fault, that's boxing no excuses for those types of injuries).

Re: Gervonta Davis vs Isaac Cruz
Beaunuitmem, it seems like there is almost always an a-side bias on commentary now regardless of the network and for obvious reasons. I was on the international Fox telecast so I can't say how the Showtime one was if you are referring to that. When Fox has used the punch count (very inaccurate as well), that's the most blatant form of broadcast bias I've seen. For casuals, the broadcast bias may sway them, but more passionate fans seem to sometimes have an underdog bias. I can't really see a way to score it for Cruz personally, but I thought he made a good impression controlling the engagements. I agree he did a good job of going to the body of Tank which is not easy to do with a powerful counter puncher. Part of the thing about Kambosos you should consider is that Lopez is a Top Rank fighter, Kambosos is a free agent. I don't know if it will be different because it's one of their top fighters in Tank but it seems like PBC is having some network money issues with all of the fights they have/will be putting on PPV that are not PPV level. I think you can see Tank vs. Ryan Garcia, Tank vs. Haney possibly in the next year or so. The problem with Loma and Haney is they are not draws and as Floyd said, the sport is prizefighting. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see a title get dropped because of a mandatory, but we'll see.

Just call me Mem please mate. Beautnuitmem is the dunce's hat I have to wear for not being more selective.
I don't know which broadcast it was because it was an illegal stream and I completely agree with you on the general a-side bias but I just thought this was particularly strong and it's irked me that I've not really seen the Fundora fight in particular, called out for it. I didn't score either fight and I might have to eat my words later down the line but Garcia looked like he clearly won a competitive fight, Tank Cruz looked really close but you never got that sense of jeopardy because according to the commentary Fundora and Tank were in control even when they obviously weren't. I'll add that I think the hand injury is the only reason the Tank fight was close, Cruz clearly not on that level but will give anybody a tough time while it lasts.
Agree with your observation on ppv's too but with regards to Haney and Loma not being draws, I think that is another PBC propaganda tactic. Being a draw and the size of the prize are not necessarily linked, especially if you have influential backers, like both Loma and Haney do. So when they say the fight can't happen because so-and-so isn't a draw, what they mean is it can't happen on Fox or Showtime PPV because we can't afford it and although it would be a good thing for both fighters and more importantly for boxing in general, PBC's reputation as the biggest and best, will take a knock.
Related but not related, it's also been suprising to me how many casuals have been telling me how well Sky have been doing since Eddie's departure. I personally would have the Sky cards below MTK, Queensberry and Hennessy Sports cards but it just goes to show that being a draw is much less about good boxing and much more about how close the ring-walks of the main event are to the end of the football.

Re: Gervonta Davis vs Isaac Cruz
The key is to not count blocked shots and to give the more aggressive fighter (clearly Cruz in this fight) the rounds where they both land about even. Body language is also important, it gives you an idea of who is doing more damage. Cruz hurt Tank in the 10th and always backed down whenever he traded with Cruz.

Re: Gervonta Davis vs Isaac Cruz
Great performance from Cruz, Cruz gave Davis a lot of problems, Davis is usually the harder puncher and has the better chin, but Cruz hits extremely hard, took Davis's power very well, and could take more risks than a Davis opponent normally could. Speed was the biggest difference, Davis took advantage when the tempo dropped, is variety improved as the fight went on, but Cruz made it hard for him to get into a rhythm in the early rounds, he was first, made Davis feel the power, he probably hit harder than Davis expected, he threw at angles, was varied, and came in very low, was moving his head when Davis was trying to pick his shots, wasn't in an easy position to be hit, and his blocking was good, and Davis's punch selection and volume were very important.
