R1- Agramonte really looks tiny in there. As the Cuban elects to probing and pawing the jab and moving, Louis is still finding him with the jab and is able to get in close to land short combos to the body at times. Agramonte shows some nice movement against the ropes late, but still does nothing offensively to give himself a chance of winning the round. Louis loses balance bad after missing a 1-2 at the end.

R2- Louis finally puts his renowned right cross to work and to great success. The first of which rocks Agramonte, another moments later really buckles him. The third cross that lands for Louis flattens Agramonte, who just barely beats the count. Agramonte is able to gather himself with profuse clinching and even comes back to hit Louis with a few combos and even catch him off balance at one point, but gets rocked twice more by a cross and a left hook at different moments. Good round for The Brown Bomber.

R3- Agramonte is impressive as far as his footwork goes, showing nice lateral movement and angles, but he is too far out of range to land, and is usually having his shots parried or slipped when this isn’t the case. As for Louis, he is consistently snapping back the head of the smaller man with his jab.

R4- Even with Agramonte backpedaling and setting himself up far away, Louis is still able to tag him with the jab and a good rate, while still getting under the shots of the smaller fighter. A right uppercut for Louis snaps Agramonte’s head back in the pocket, causing him to distance himself. Agramonte gets rocked again at one point in the middle of the round, which prompts him to hold. When Agramonte does clinch, Louis is able to free his arms and land body shots. Agramonte has success after putting punches together late, but a counter left hook sap his want to fight for the round’s remainder. Good round for Louis.

R5- While Agramonte is probing his jab, he is not snapping it or landing any punch behind it. Louis is finding him with his jab often, most particularly when he scores with a jab to the body then two to the face back to back. Louis misses with a left hook late that may have done some real damage, but he does snap Agramonte’s head back with a right uppercut at one point. Despite getting mildly buckled before the bell with a left hook, Louis easily pockets another round.

R6- Despite not being able to or at least not attempting to cut off the ring, Louis continues to pressure the smaller Agramonte, keeping the jab in his face and drawing a negative reaction whenever he lands his left hook.

R7- Louis continues to march forward, slip the jab of Agramonte and pop him in the face with his own jab.

R8- Louis continues to dominate with the one. Agramonte scores with two left hooks, but Louis shows good accuracy with his counterpunching. A cross manages to bring the fight out of Agramonte for a moment, but his flurry is unsuccessful.

R9- It’s neat seeing Louis slip the jab and then use his own as a counter. He has upped his output a bit, catching Agramonte with several clean left hooks. Agramonte finally shows some dog at times, but is too reliant to fighting in spurts, allowing Louis to outscore and outgun him easily.

R10- Louis coasts to easily win a rather anticlimatic final round, but does at least wobble Agramonte with a right hand. I do not believe in moral victories in boxing, but it is a rather impressive and underrated feat that Agramonte was the first to go the distance with Joe Louis twice, as Louis previously had an incredible record of 9-0 (9 KOs) in rematches coming in. Regardless, Louis won an easy shutout, properly schooling and beating up the Cuban. Despite Agramonte’s footwork, distance (he set himself up far often), and proven durability, I have no doubt in my mind that Louis would stop the smaller man in his prime. Overall, another impressive jab clinic by Louis.
