Fight Notes: 

After winning a controversial decision over Erik Morales in their much-anticipated rematch, Marco Antonio Barrera gives up the Featherweight title belts, preferring only to be recognized as lineal champion. He next takes on his friend Johnny Tapia in what is expected to be a war. Instead, Barrera tames the wildman with a stiff jab and punishing combinations whenever Tapia drops his hands and clowns. In the end, Barrera wins a wide unanimous decision in a bout that does nothing to damage their friendship.
