I definitely agree, I am yet to watch the Norton and Young fights but Ali was fading, he could take blows but he was not the same man he was in the 60's and some of his 70's wins were luck.

Yup, I agree there is no way Ali could have won that fight. With this fight You can actually quite easily recognize who is bluffing about knowing boxing history, because not many people are aware that Ali was actually very "lucky" at the end of his career to get some decisions. I mean, ppl are saying - Ali was great, he beat one of the greatest punchers - Earnie Shavers. Well the thing is, sure Ali was great, but there is no way he beat Shavers and people are just repeating some things without actually watching the fight
I think his legend made judges really biased at that time ;) I think he also received gift decisions in the third fight against Norton and against Jimmy Young, and what's quite interesting to me - these "gift decisions" are almost like some kind of taboo subject, you won't hear often about these controversies.

wow, the 2 judges and the referee were so biased to Muhammad Ali it's like they were told that when Shavers visibly hurt Ali, give him the round otherwise give the rest to Ali.
Absolutely ridiculous, Shavers surprisingly outboxed and outsmarted Muhammad Ali in this fight. Round 1 was a draw for me, neither had really established anything.
Rounds 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13 and 14 where Shavers because he showed skill in defence when Ali threw flurries that 8/10 or maybe even 9/10 punches landed on Shavers' gloves and counter-punching ability against Muhammad Ali by landing more clean and harder punches.
Ali got Rounds 5, 10 and 11 by being more busy then Shavers and landing more and demonstrated more skill.
The 15th Round was definitely a draw for me but you could make the case for either fighters. Shavers defence and retaliation had him most of the round but towards the end Ali gave all he had left and had Shavers hurt. Both were tired and injured in this round so I see it is a draw.
Earnie Shavers definitely in my opinion defeated Ali decisively and was robbed.

    10-3-2 for Earnie Shavers

Ali gave away the first four rounds allowing Lyle to waist a lot of energy firing away whilst Ali defended. Ali starts the fifth with his famous footwork and with better defense manages to beat Lyle in rounds 5-8. Lyle was more busy and more consistent in 9 and 10 and didn't allow Ali to properly fight his fight.
    6-4 Lyle

This reminds me of May - pac a little bit. not a knock on may or pac.. two guys over 35 years old going at it. old rivals who have been on eachothers radar a long time. Jones jr. was being very inactive and hoping for a decision win. It was a lack of age though and maybe his head and heart were not in the right place. Jones is also very one dimensional and never uses jabs or left hooks. But this was a much much bigger case of one dimensional and inactive.

R1. very boring, Tarver trys to escort jones to the ropes but jones quickness prevents that. Jones gets off first but tarver gets the better of the lone exchanges. R2 and 3 are carbon copies of eachother as Tarver wins by virtue of actually boxing, landing a mediocre jab periodically, and a straight left to various targets on the moving jones.. Jones outpoints Tarver in the 4th round as he comes alive with some nice left hooks and his looping right. R5 big for Jones as he outslugs tarver. He lands some nice uppercuts and fights back when against the rope. Jones finally shows he is more skilled in the most exciting round. R6 saw jones rest and showboat but not do alot of punching. Tarver has a hard time getting his rythym but still outdoes jones. R7 Jones only throws 8 punches and tarver wins. r8 tarver throws out the jab and roy keeps looking to go over top. roy circles and tarver fences him off every time he tries to engage. R9 Jones come out more aggressive but tarver responds and begins to put the finishing touches on the decision. Tarver seems to have Jones figured out and walks him back to the ropes and wins easily. R10 features tarver landing decently and much better. jones finally goes for something like he should but tarver still lands periodically and wins it easy on my card R11 Tarver comes out sloppy but determined, and he lands a big chopping right hook. Jones is badly stunned but fights back. He then goes to the ropes and covers up. Jones shows incredible toughness but tarver keeps landing. R12 Roy has new life, however, after the near ko in 11, and he outpoints tarver in a close and somewhat sloppy round 12. Jones couldn't pull the trigger and in my opinion should of retired after this fight unless he found a good farewell fight. However, he beat a few bums, then beat an undersized and over the hill trinidad before losing a boring fight to hopkins and calgazhe and now he is back to fighting probably just for fun or money.

this fight reminds me alot of mayweather pacquiao because it was a popular fighter who most people expected to lose. Jones had the more skill though and he was still able to win a few rounds with those skills. but jones showed no consistent fight over 36 minutes and got outboxed. It wasn't even a great performance by tarver. magic man looked kind of sloppy, lacked power, and he was constintly taking steps backwords whenever roy was moving around. but tarver got the job done much like mayweather did.
