Fight Notes:

Russian giant Nikolay Valuev becomes the tallest and heaviest champion in boxing history when he wrests the WBA Heavyweight title from John Ruiz with a debatable majority decision in Germany. After the bout, Ruiz's notorious trainer Norman Stone attempts to physically retake the title belt and gets into a brawl with one of the new champion's corner men.

A draw is what I had.

dizzy's picture

So many talented HWs like Virchis or Bidenko never got the opportunity to fight top guys and exploit their potential, while Nikolai Valuev got all the chances to prove himself thanks to Don King who tried really hard to promote him as the Andre the Giant type of attraction.

Another truly terrible Valuev fight

atlast Ruiz clang and bangs with him abit at the end

Just ridiculously difficult fight to score. Do you give credit to Valuev for largely controlling the distance in many rounds and sometimes landing a mediocre right hand, thus taking Ruiz out of his usual game, or does Ruiz win rounds based on one, maybe two, flurries of combinations that definitely landed, did no damage, and were always followed by a clinch attempt? Only the boxing gods know for certain.
