Prediction,

Both fighters are solid fundamental boxers, but both can fight on the inside. Garcia is more defensively solid than Vargas, he is the better counter puncher, he is very accurate, splits the guard of the opponent very well, and I think he is better.

I think Garcia's natural weight is 130-135, he struggled to make 126, but since his comeback from his 2-3 year layoff, he has fought between 135 and 147, and I thought he did great at 135, marginally worse at 140, and poor at 147. Garcia was disappointing against Spence, he lost every round, size was definitely a factor, he rarely landed clean, couldn't get Spence's respect whenever he did land clean to the head, he was sluggish, he gassed in the late rounds. I think Vargas's natural weight is 147-154, he did very well to make 140 at 25, and he is a tall welterweight at 5'11. At 147, the weight favours Vargas, no doubt. I think Garcia, naturally, hits a fair bit harder than Vargas, but he does not hit harder at 147.

Garcia comes off 11 months out after the Spence loss, it was one sided, he might not have the same confidence and mindset he had before the Spence fight, Vargas comes off 10 months out, he hasn't been active himself in the last year, but his last fight was a stoppage win, he has more momentum. Vargas is 30, Garcia is 32, the timing aspect definitely favours Vargas.

Vargas certainly has the size advantage, but I think Spence is slightly bigger, is stronger, and he definitely hits harder, is offensively better, more dangerous, so although Garcia won't take a lot of risks, will have to respect Vargas's power, he won't have to be as cautious as he was against Spence. I think Garcia will definitely struggle with this being at 147, but he might not struggle as much as he did against Spence, because he has the experience of the Spence fight.

I don't think the timing, size aspects are enough for Vargas to have the beating of Garcia, I think the difference in calibre is too much, but those factors definitely give Vargas a better chance of a win, and I think this will be a very competitive fight, and the hardest fought win Garcia has had since 2008, when he got up off the deck to beat Walter Estrada in a close fight.

I think this will be a fight with 2 havles, I think Vargas will come on strong in the late rounds, will be able to walk through Garcia's power, will be prepared to take shots to land them, but Garcia will be too far ahead, because in the majority of the rounds, he will be a step ahead, will out box Vargas in several of the rounds, Vargas will struggle to impose his size and make Garcia work, Garcia won't tire until late in the fight, and he will be clearly ahead after 8 rounds.

I think Mikey wins by MD.

I think this will be the test if Mikey can actually compete at Welterweight effectively, or if it's just a bridge too far to cross.

Spence was of course a special case, maybe a bit too big for Mikey to handle, and generally just a tough fight to start with at 147. Vargas is no joke though, a former world champion, and at least a solid B+ fighter. It should be interesting to see. I'll take Mikey by a close but unanimous decision.

Wouldn't be entirely shocked to see it go the other way though.

I’m going with Vargas by UD on this one. I think Mikey is on the decline plus he’s taking this fight after a lot of inactivity coming off a big defeat against Spence. I’m also taking into account size and reach advantage in giving Vargas the edge.

pretty much a disappointing last couple of weeks with all these evenly matched fights falling by the wayside huh
only silver lining i find here is Mikey shakes off potential ring rust against a lesser opponent first before prolly be able to give a better performance in his next fight if that is indeed against Prograis
