Mikey Garcia vs Robert Easter Jr
WBC lightweight world champion, Mikey Garcia, and IBF world champion, Robert Easter, battle it out in Los Angeles, in a unification fight, and a battle of the unbeatens.
Garcia is the favourite, but Easter has a 20 centimetre reach advantage.
The fight begins as a battle of the jabs, Easter, landing his jab more, Garcia, landing a couple of sharp counter jabs. It is Easter who settles down more in the first couple of rounds. In round 3, Garcia lands a great right hand, left hook to drop Easter, he gets up, he is hurt, but survives. Garcia has a good 4th round as he outboxes Easter. Rounds 5-7 are close, Garcia with the better punches overall, defence, but Easter with the work rate, both fighters do good work in the middle rounds, but Garcia lands a great left hook in round 6 which is a stand out shot.
Garcia dominates the last 5 rounds of the fight, walks Easter down, lands more, lands with more power. Garcia smashes straight shots through the guard, bashes away at the body. In round 10, Garcia starts to punish an inactive and clearly fatuiged Easter with hard, clean power shots in clusters as he traps him. Garcia continues to dominate in the championship rounds, as he makes Easter miss and does great work with the 1, 2.
Garcia wins a unanimous decision, all 3 judges, scoring him a wide winner, awarding him the victory, and the IBF title. Garcia becomes a two belt world champion.
