I adore this fight. It is a fantastic fight, however I rate Shakur extremely highly, I think Shakur is the next Mayweather or something. He is just that talented in my opinion, I was shocked to see how average Shakur made Herring look in his last fight, and Herring is a good fighter with a very solid win over Frampton in his name. Valdez is still a very good fighter with a very good win over Berchelt who is also a very good fighter himself. Overall, despite the fantastic match up with two brilliant undefeated champion fighters, I think Shakur will win a boring points decision pretty comfortably winning every round bar one or two close rounds, and like Shakur did with Herring, will also make Valdez look average. Only because Shakur is just that bloody good.

Champion97's picture

Prediction.

Valdez hasn't fought a southpaw in 7 years, that will favour Stevenson. Valdez is usually the faster fighter in hand and foot, he is a hard, accurate combination puncher, but Stevenson is even better in those departments, Valdez doesn't have a great chin, Stevenson's chin is still untested, both are hard to hit consistently, but the difference is, Stevenson hasn't shows the same defensive lapses and mistakes Valdez has. Valdez hits harder than Stevenson, but Stevenson has all the attributes to maximise the use of his power, Valdez has the extra experience, but Stevenson has shown vast improvement, it was a dominant and seasoned performance against Herring, Valdez has the better resume with the Berchelt win, but Berchelt definitely wasn't at his best. Stevenson's ring IQ is better than Valdez's, his shot selection and ability to set shots up is a key difference, and he has a slight reach advantage.

I think Valdez will start on the front foot, will take centre ring, look to jab his way in, look to make Stevenson feel the power and put him on the defensive, but Stevenson will be ahead with the feet, his front foot will be outside Valdez's, Valdez will make himself small, won't be an easy target for the left hand, but Stevenson will throw combinations, which will make it hard for Valdez to work. I think Stevenson's variety will improve after a couple of rounds, will set up more shots and be more unpredictable with his offence. I think after 4 rounds Valdez will be following Stevenson, will be trying to pick his shots, but will be an easier and easier target, Stevenson will do a lot of damage to the body, and when Valdez backs up, Stevenson will tee off, and will stop him with a varied, accurate, and consistent onslaught.

My prediction is Stevenson in 7 or 8 rounds, I think it will be his toughest fight so far, but not by much, and that doesn't mean much with how easy his career has been so far. I'd be shocked if Valdez won this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it went the distance.

Shakur will dominate this one. Great fight, Stevenson is simply better in almost all areas except perhaps raw punch power. It will be all one-way traffic, I think Stevenson wins a clear landslide decision, although there would be no surprise if he stopped Valdez.

Good performance from Stevenson, he picked Valdez off at long range, but did the clean work on the inside, wasn't troubled by Valdez cutting off the ring, his defence was good, and even the shots he did take, he was moving with and taking the sting out of. Valdez couldn't adapt to Stevenson's selection and accuracy, he adapted relatively well to his stance, but seemed frustrated, and Stevenson did some damage. I think Stevenson coasted in the late rounds, which isn't a good sign for his mentality, the referee warning him for pushing with the right hand got to him, definitely affected his performance, but Valdez couldn't do much to take advantage of it.

Jarod Killian's picture

who does Shakur fight next? my guess is either Roger Guthrie, the DR guy that beat Chris Colbert or the winner of Ogawa vs Cordina

Gold's picture

Conceicao probably or move up to 135. Guiterrez and Ogawa would fill Shakur's resume out more but I don't think anyone seriously thinks they can beat him, all of the good matchups for him are at 135. Unless they can somehow get the money to work, grandpa Bob is right that Guiterrez and Ogawa are going to cost more as champions from another promoter and won't draw at all.

Michel Rivera would be an interesting proposition if he goes up
