Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jose Pedraza
Fight Notes: Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachencko and Puerto Rican Jose Pedraza put their belts on the line in a unification fight in New York. Both fighters make their first defence, Pedraza, coming off a UD title win against all action fighter, Raymundo Beltran, and Lomachencko, coming off a stoppage win over slick, experienced boxer, Jorge Linares, getting up off the deck to win the title. Lomachencko is a very heavy favourite, and expected to win with ease as he did in every fight he had been 2015 and 2017. Pedraza starts confidently, moves his head, feints, and is clearly well prepared for Lomachencko's style, he throws more punches in the early rounds, but in every round, Lomachencko, although not active, is defensively solid, and able to land a couple of stand out shots. The mid rounds are more action packed, as both fighters land more punches, Pedraza throws more shots, but Lomachencko's blocking is solid, and he is the much more accuracte fighter. Pedraza seems the more fatuiged in the late rounds, and Lomachencko seems to be the one who has it physically and tactically in the locker to come on strong, late, Pedraza does rally, have a good 10th round, attacking going backwards and having success, but in round 11, Lomachencko has him in bother, and the accumulation of punches drops Pedraza to a knee, he beats the count, but an agonising body shot from Lomachencko drops him again, once again, Pedraza beats the count. Lomachencko is aggressive in the last round, but doesn't put Pedraza down again. Lomachencko wins a landslide UD, defends his WBA title, and beats Pedraza for his WBO title. |

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jose Pedraza
Prediction,
Vasyl Lomachencko is the 2nd best boxer in the world in my opinion, he was great at 126, great at 130, and he has made a great start to his career at 135, he is in his prime, he has only had one fight at 135, but that went past 9 rounds, and this fight should be all the adaptation he needs, I think he is big enough to be strong at 135, but he he didn't have it all his own way against Linares, who decked him, although still, Lomachencko, finishing the fight with a spectacular, agonising body shot.
Jose Pedraza is good, he has had a start stop career, certainly didn't look good against Edner Cherry and Gervonta Davis, but against Stephen Smith and Raymundo Beltran, he impressed. Pedraza is good, he is in his prime, he is experienced, is a two-time world champion in his own right, but I do not think he is better than Linares, I don't think he is better than Walters, Sosa, and I don't think he can give Lomachencko problems.
Pedraza has a size advantage, but so did Linares, Lomachencko is now more adapted to 135, and Linares was still well beaten. I think Lomachencko is so skilful, that he can outbox, out smart, school Pedraza from the start, Pedraza has some power, if he lands clean on Lomachencko's chin, it could get interesting, but Lomachencko's defence is phenomenal, has only slacked off with his defence before, because the fights were too easy, and I don't think Pedraza can throw without being countered.
I think this will be an easy win for Lomachencko, I think he will win every single round, beat Pedraza to the punch, and outwork him, just like he did against Sosa, Walters, Rigondeaux, Marriaga, and I think after 8 rounds, they will pull him out, when rounds 7 and 8 have been a beatdown, and Lomachencko is just using him as a punching bag with ease, when Pedraza has had it beaten out of him and is only there because of his pride in not quitting, his corner will do the right thing, stop the fight.
I think Pedraza will be made to look bad, but is a top 5 lightweight, I don't think anyone apart from Mikey Garcia can give Lomachencko problems, but the Garcia fight is the fight we all want to see, if Lomachencko beats Pedraza (as he 99% will), then Garcia and Lomachencko will each have two belts, so the winner would be the undisputed lightweight champion.
This is a win/win fight for Pedraza, nobody is expecting him to win, people won't be unimpressed if he doesn't win a round on a scorecard, he has a title to lose, but he has already achieved a lot, this is a great opportunity, he should just try his best, no shame in losing to a great fighter.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jose Pedraza
What a performance from Jose Pedraza!, Pedraza did great, was always moving, switched stance at the right times, attacked Lomachencko in combinations and then got out of range, went to the body, he had studied Lomachencko's style, had a good game plan. I think Lomachencko was slightly off in this fight, was a good performance overall, but not great, I wonder if that shoulder is 100%, I would say probably not, his right hand wasn't that useful in this fight, mentally, he seemed to struggle a bit, but Lomachencko is adaptable, when the fight was competitive, Lomachencko came back with an 11th round like that.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jose Pedraza
Mostly agree with you...Pedraza's defense was awesome...it did look like Loma's B-game...however, Loma's defense was exceptional (as usual) and Pedraza missed almost all his punches - so it's hard to give JP too much credit.
Though I don't agree with the circumstances, refereeing or even the final judges' scores for the Salido fight - I do think it taught us the only way to beat Loma is to make it an ugly, grappling, inside fight (sort of like Hatton vs Tszyu maybe?). Of course, this isn't Pedraza's game at all, so I didn't expect it last night but maybe Mikey G can execute it? That is if his orbital sockets are still intact after the Spence fight lol

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jose Pedraza
A lot of them were partially blocked, but he landed enough to win a few rounds.
Yeah I agree with that, basically, a pro's fight, not the sort of fight the amateur game fully prepares you for.
It is sad that boxing politics is like this, someone, some people, do not want Mikey anywhere near Lomachencko, so in order to get in a meaningful fight before he gets old, Mikey is jumping up, taking a big risk, and doing Thruman, Crawford's work for them, there are welterweights, Thurman, Pacquiao, who don't want Spence, and Mikey is obviously no welterweight.
I think Lomachencko's shoulder was a big factor last night.
Do you want to be in the prediction competition?

Yeah, I'm usually on this site a lot and pretty much watch/score every medium-to-major fight. Please include me in the prediction competition and let me know how to do it.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs Jose Pedraza
Awesome bro.
Just give me predictions for,
Ramirez vs Hart II
Fielding vs Alvarez
Farmer vs Fonseca
Lemieux vs Johnson
Warrington vs Frampton
Whyte vs Chisora II
Rosales vs Edwards
Jermall Charlo vs Monroe
Jermell Charlo vs Harrison
Nietes vs Ioka
Here's how it works, you make a prediction, outcome, and UD, S/MD, Early (1-4), Mid (5-8), or late (9-12).
Get the outcome wrong, 0 points.
Get the win right but the decision/stoppage wrong, 2 points
Get the win and UD right 5 points
Say early stoppage but it is late, 3 points
Say late bit it is mid, 4 points
Say late and it is late, 5 points
Say Sd/Md and it is UD, 4 points
Say SD and it is SD, 6 points because they are harder to call than UDs
Get a draw right, 7 points.
That's basically how the points work.
